Hi!
I'm user of Windows operating system. With Linux I have first experience on VMWare virtual machine.
I installed VMWare Tools and configured shared folders.
When I tried to find shared folders in Linux (64-bit Ubuntu) I was lost in large amount of folders. I found physical devices only CD-ROM and FDD.
I'm really newbie. So, really where to find in Ubuntu shard folders?
My VMWare is running on Windows 10.1607 Pro x64, shared folders are two partitions.
Here is also important Q: What a FS needs Ubuntu to work with? One partition is NTFS and 2nd is FAT16, I have no problem to reformat it also to FAT32...
I tested also OSX and it works with NTFS correctly what is behavior only virtual machine 'cause OSX can read only ExFAT in real computer.
Thank you for help.

I installed VMWare Player intending to install Kali Linux which is stored in Windows 10 Documents. According to the book The Basics of Hacking and Penetration Testing I should be able to install Kali from my hard drive. When I installed VMWare Player I only appeared to be able to run Kali from a CD. have I missed something during installation or can't I run Kali from my hard drive?
I have a Mac mini OS X Server 10.6. How can virtualize this server?
Hi
I had ran through a problem in a VM memory Utilization is showing High. When i checked through Vsphere chart memory counter it only showing 2 GB usage in active status and 16 GB in the consumed state. What does it means exactly . I had granted 16 GB memory for that particular VM. I have checked the memory utilization in the OS level and it is to the peak 98% not at all reducing.
I have tried reduce the utilization by stopping some services but no hope. Please help what we can do next for reducing this issue.
Thanks

Hi,
Please could any one help me in understanding the key differences between VM suspend, VM shutdown and VM pause.
I understood that VM suspend is copying the VM state to disk and allowing the VM to enter sleep mode.
But, what is the key differences between the suspend, shutdown and pause.
And what would i achieve in each of the case.
Help appreciated!!
Thanks
I downloaded the latest VMware Tools 10.1 and updated one of our ESXi servers with the software. When I vMotioned a VM to the server with the new tools the VMware Tools Version Status showed as unsupported. I updated the tools and rebooted the VM and it now says Current, but why would it say unsupported? I was expecting it to say out of date.
Hello,
I have installed a Win Server 2012 R2 with a DELL OEM-Licence on ESXi 6.
Now I try to activate this Windows but got always an error "Bios don't match they licence".
I add following lines to the vmx file
SMBIOS.reflectHost = "TRUE"
SMBIOS.noOEMStrings = "TRUE"
smbios.addHostVendor = "TRUE"
But if I look into Win registry there stand always "Phoenix" as Bios Vendor
I someone an Idea?
Thank you, regards

Hi, I'm new to VMware but I hope this is simple.
I have a 2008 VM server with 3 external usb hard drives (one is 3.0 and two are 2.0 usb) connected to it already and these are used for backup purposes.
All I want is to replace them with three usb 3.0 external drives.
So do I just eject these drives from the server, shut it down, unplug the old ones, connect the new ones and start the VM again?
Or do I need to remove the existing USB drives from the VM and then add the new ones?
Not really sure how to go about it.
Thanks
Hi every one
I have a SQL cluster with two nodes and each one is living in different host the issue is that when I copy a file from one node to another the copy speed is like 20mb/s but when I copy one file from one node to another standalone VM in the vmware cluster the copy speed is 100mb/s, my question is why the copy speed is lower between the mcsc nodes?
The VMs OS is Windows server 2012 R2 in all the VMs and the nic is vmxnet3.
I have revised the cpu with esxtop and it seems to be ok,
Thanks
I have three guest servers that all crashed last week. They are all missing the same folders and files. Some files appear to have reverted to older versions (e.g. vmtoolssd.exe) and files updated by Windows update. Also, I get a access denied when I try to open c:\windows\system32\drivers\ folder. We attempted to restart two of the quests and they don't boot. One is still running. This happened to two servers at almost the same time. The third server is in a separate datacenter from the other two and crashed about 14 hours after the first two. I need help determining how this happened.
Windows 2012R2 (with MS updates though August)
Dell PowerEdge R630 servers
Dell Compellent 4020 storage
ESXi 6.0.0, 3620759.
I want to be able to boot into my linux installs from Windows 10 (raw disk). I have tried setting it up to the best of my educated guessingness but I am not getting past boot up (getting intel pxe boot install of grub bootloader).
Here is my setup:
750GB SSD SATA primary drive with only Windows 10 installed (should also have the grub bootloader)
2TB HDD secondary SATA drive with a 1.5 TB NTFS "data" partition and the remaining space split between Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Kali and the linux swap.
With a raw disk setup with access to only the HDD I could only get an intel pxe boot which went nowhere. When i tried to also give the VM access to the first 2 small partitions on the SSD, theoretically giving it access to the bootloader for it to use, I get an access error "Physical disk already in use...cannot open the disk Z:\(the HDD)......vdmk or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Module "disk" power on failed"
Any ideas or can someone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting...
TY

The filesystem driver (vmhgfs module) is used only for the shared folder
feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work
independently of this feature.
If you wish to have the shared folders feature, you can install the driver by
running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make
and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine.
These packages are available on your distribution's installation CD.
[ Press Enter key to continue ]
Which on the one hand looks like the the install for vmhgfs completely without error, but on the other hand looks like it failed since it's telling me to run vmware-config-tools again to get the shared folders feature. I confirmed that the shared folder feature is not working. I got similar messages for other features; the feature seemed to build fine, but then I get a similar message implying it didn't. In any case, the folder that should show up in /mnt/hgfs isn't there, and doesn't show up when I do the "mount" command. But if I type "vmware-hgfsclient" it does list the folder that is supposed to be shared.
I've tried rebooting, running the uninstaller and installing again, but nothing is working.
The complete install log is attached.
Can someone please help?
Thanks!

Can i Install ESXi 6.0 on Dell Vostro 270s ?

Nvidia GeForce 310
I am trying this but Not working
Please Help
Hi all,
I have the vSphere 5.5 esxi desktop client and esxi on an HP server.
Probably made a bit of a mess of this VM so would appreciate some advice. Loaded vmware ESXi a few years ago and it pretty much runs without too much intervention.
I created a VM with a (thick) 750Gb hard disk and turns out I need some disk space that so decided to shrink that VM. As the approved way of doing this is to p2v the disk then create a new VM I did this, by downloading the latest p2v converter.
I have deleted the original VM to make some space.
When I added the .vmx file to the inventory it now appears as:
Unknown (invalid)
How can I get this vm back up and running? Do I need to upgrade to v6.0
many thanks
How can I use Tom Tom navigator in a Windows 7 installed in an VMware Workstation 10.0.3 in a Linux Centos 7 (kernel 3.10.0-327.36.3.el7.x86_64) host ?
When I connect TomTom usb I have, from Vmware, this message:
