VM overruns monitor screen

I'm running Kubuntu 16.04 and have installed Workstation 12.5.2.  I have a Windows 10 VM.  The host machine (Kubuntu) fits the monitor just fine, but the Windows VM "screen" is too large; it has both vertical and horizontal scrollbars showing ("overstretch"?).  My graphics card is GE 750Ti, and I have NVIDIA's X Server Settings program installed as well.  Within the VM, the only choices for display resolution are the standards, all of which are in landscape mode.  I use portrait mode, so none of those do me any good.  Any ideas on what I should try next?  Thanks.
