Unable to change virtual machine power state

System: Host;

Laptop - MCI Pe60

OS - Linux Mint 17.3

VmWare Workstation Pro 12.1.1 build-3770994

VM: Windows 7 - Pro, copied over from another machine

I've searched far and wide for a solution to this problem. Most solutions point to a permissions problem. However, the entirety of my VM folder is set to +777, owned by root:root. I've also tried running workstation as root. Nothing seems to allow me to open the VM - I continually get the error mentioned below. The file that it cannot find is indeed present.

Unable to change virtual machine power state: Unable to open file "<path>/Windows 7 x64 SP1-cl1-000002.vmdk":

The system cannot find the file specified

Thank you, Steve
