Hello all!
Customer has a three Host VMware ESXi 5.5 build 1746018 setup with an IBM v3700 storwise as storage.
One Host holds two VMs running Windows 2008 R2 Microsoft Failover Cluster Server sevices.
Each node VM has a SCSI Controller 0 set to Bus Sharing None for the System drive and a SCSI Controller 1 set to Bus Sharing Physical for the clustered drives/databases/services, Running out of (1:x) numbers the customers need to add a say (2:0) SCSI and so adding a SCSI Controller 2.
This goes well on one node in the cluster but not the other. Whether node 1 or 2 it always fails on the second one. The Bus Sharing was set to Physical though I later found VMware documentation stating virtual bus sharing. Q: Set to Physical or Virtual?
What happens is that the vCenter Server Service stops and cannot run again for more than about 60 sec before it stops again. vpxd log files shows "panic" and I found this artikel:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2100938
The second node shows an Inconsistent Disk and no SCSI Controller 2 in Settings, The vxd file show s SCSI Controller 2 but it is set as Present = FALSE. Shutting down the VM and starting it again clears this state and lets vCenter Server server run again stable.
Q: The Artikel shows that this issue was solved from Vmware 5.1 update 3 and the customer uses 5.5 build 174618. Are any of you aware of a patch that must be added to solve this problem or is it enough to go by the documentation and set that Bus Sharing for SCSI Controller 2 to Virtual?
