Windows 2008 Enterprise x32 with > 4GB RAM not fully compatible?

I have some Windows 2008 Enterprise x32 SP2 term servers with 20GB of RAM.  There were running on ESXi 5.1 with VM version 4.  I migrated them to a ESXi 5.5u1 (1892794) host, and updated them to VM version 10.  I also updated vmtools, changed the NIC to vmxnet3, and the SCSI to paravirtual.

Everything worked fine.

Until the number of users on the term servers began to climb above 4 or 5.  Once that happens, everything goes to pot.  The system stops responding RDP requests, file errors, read errors, bizarre application errors with explorer, you name it.  The OS is completely hosed.  The eventlog -- assuming it will open -- reports nothing of note.

A hard-reboot fixes it.  Until more than 4 or 5 people log in and the cycle repeats.

I have other servers with this image running on ESXi 5.5u1.  But they're still VM version 4.  I'm thinking VM version 10 is not fully compatible with this 32-bit OS with > 4GB of RAM.

Anyone else seen anything like this?
