VMware vCenter5 VM snapshots and MS SQL 2008

I have been told that in the past, it was not a good idea to perform snapshots if the VM was a SQL server.   However, I believe that was pre-ver5.    We have ESXi5.o and vCenter 5.    We have a Windows 2008R2 VM and it has SQL Server 2008 installed in the Guest.   Can I take a snapshot of it?   What concerns should I have?
