Sound device missing in Linux VM

Hi there,

I recently created a VM with a Linux distro, Ubuntu 12.04 using ESXI 5.5. The problem I am facing is the software I need to run on the guest OS requires a detected sound card. I have checked the setting and tried to add the resource to the VM but there is no sound device to select. I have read that VMWare doesn't add the device by default but I can't seem to find a way to add it. I have VM Tools installed and there is a physical working sound card host, but I can't seem to locate the device. I am using Vsphere to create and edit my VMs. I am also a little new to ESXI so I apologize if I am missing some vital information or overlooking the obvious.

Thanks in advance,

Jason
