Looking for guidance to cut through the FUD related to LVM in VI envs:
FEAR "fsck wiped out the lvm" -
UNCEARTAINTY "LVM versions may or may not journal correctly" -
DISINFORMATION - "EXT4 or software raid or xfs is better"
We like the LVM convienence to get around the 2Tb VMware limits for large filesystems, but need to assure data security, fsck OS level recoverability
For the real vulernabilities of LVM, what are the best practices to mitigate these (eg run vgcfgbackup to backup the metadata - well documented recovery procedures)
thanks for any tips!
Hopefully the next release supports > 2Tb limits, so no need for LVMs - many customer's fileserver VMs are at stake (and mgmt hears Hyper-V does not have this limit)
